Mangroves represents our deep connection as Bundjalung people to our saltwater Country and waterways.
Mangroves have always been important to our people. They provide places to hunt, fish and gather food, while also providing materials that can be used to make tools and other resources.
For generations, our people have relied on the mangroves and waterways for food, materials, knowledge and connection. They are part of our stories, our way of life and our relationship with Country.
I have many memories walking through the mangroves, hunting for mud crabs along Currumbin Creek. These are the experiences that remind me of the connection we have to Country and the importance of these places to our people.
